Tractor-trailors need a lot of room. Their large size and inherent blind spots require that other drivers pay attention and give them ample room to manuever.

It is unwise to play "chicken" with a tractor-trailor

Driving back to Daytona Beach from Orlando after a Social Security hearing, I was amazed at some of the driving habits of those traveling on I-4.  I routinely witnessed cars cutting off semi-trucks and refusing to move as  semis were attempting to merge into traffic, even though there was plenty of room.  As I have stated in other articles, semi-trucks do not need to be feared, but you absolutely need to respect them!  I actually witnessed one driver almost daring a semi to pull into traffic in front of his car, almost playing "Chicken" with a tractor-trailer!  This is very unwise given the truck likely outweighs a car by several tons.  Even if you think you are in the right, or have the right of way, never assume that the semi driver sees your vehicle.  Remember, these trucks are large and have blind spots.  If it is safe to do so, allow room for these large trucks to merge onto the highway or change lanes if necessary, even if you feel you have the right of way.  By following simple, safe driving practices, accidents can be avoided.  If you have questions regarding an auto accident, please contact Johnson & Gilbert, P.A. for a free consultation at 1-800-556-8890.
