Bodily injury coverage (BI) is designed to compensate an individual injured by that driver's negligence. In other words, if you carry Bodily Injury coverage and you cause injury to someone else, this coverage compensates the injured party. Likewise, if you are injured by thenegligence of another driver, you can seek compensation from that person's BI policy. Uninsured/Underinsured coverage (UM) is your own insurance which you can claim damages from if the at fault driver does not have BI coverage or has too little coverage to compensate you for your injuries. NOTE: Neither BI nor UM coverage are required to be carried in Florida.
