Daytona Beach Area Accident Leaves Motorcyclist in Serious Condition

A motorcycle accident in the Daytona Beach area involving a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle leaves a DeLand man in serious condition. The incident took place at approximately 12:45 PM on Saturday afternoon, January 2, 2010, along U.S. 92.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when Frank Svendsen, 74, of Deland, pulled out of a convenience store on U.S. 92 and headed west on his motorcycle. Police have indicated that his motorcycle swerved into the inside westbound lane and into the path of the sport utility vehicle, causing the vehicles to collide.

Rescue workers transported Svendsen to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and treated him for injuries sustained in the crash. Svendsen was listed in serious condition, according to a nursing supervisor at Halifax Medical Center.

There were two adults and one child traveling in the sport utility vehicle at the time of the accident. The occupants in the sport utility vehicle were not injured in the crash. Their identities were not made known.

The Daytona Beach area accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It has not been determined why the motorcycle swerved into the inside lane causing the motorcycle and the sport utility vehicle to collide.
