Four-Year-Old Girl Killed in Daytona Beach Accident

Posted on Jun 29, 2010

In a tragic Daytona Beach accident, a four-year-old British girl was killed on the beach as the driver of a car panicked and ran over her. Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the young victim.

The girl was walking with her great uncle when she stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle in the driving lane that runs along Daytona Beach. Though the driver was traveling below the posted 10 mph speed limit, the victim was sent flying after the driver panicked and hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.

The young victim had been raised by her great uncle and his wife and was with them vacationing in Florida, where the family apparently has a holiday home. The family visited Daytona Beach regularly.

In Daytona Beach, the driving lanes are clearly marked, but the beach was crowded that day and high tide had brought holiday revelers closer to the driving lane.

While police were still investigating the accident, it does not appear as that the driver was driving under the influence or speeding. She faces minor charges in the incident, as witnesses told police the young girl ran into the driving lane.
