Sadly, a horse was recently euthanized after a crash on Interstate 595. The accident clogged eastbound traffic for about 90 minutes.
The owner of the horse was very upset at the site of the crash. The accident occurred near the intersection of I-595 and Hiatus Road. Her father rushed to the accident site to comfort her.
The horse, a mare, was in a horse trailer heading from Broward Country to Orlando. The vehicle jackknifed going east early in the morning. It then struck a wall.
The driver and a passenger were not injured but were still taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The back portion of the horse trailer was hanging over a road barrier leading to a drop. Fire rescue personnel cut the front portion of the trailer to free the horse. The horse was obviously in pain from items landing on top of her.
After a doctor determined that the horse would never stand again, essential for a horse’s life, the mare was sedated and put to sleep.
The owner had only had the horse for about two weeks and was transporting it to family property in Orlando. She was going to pick up another of her horses to return it to Broward County.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
