Jacksonville Auto Accidents Keep Rescue Workers Busy

A series of Jacksonville auto accidents leave rescue workers busy into the early morning. The first crash took place on Friday evening, May 7, 2010.

It all started when a female driver who was heading southbound on Crown Road drifted into a parked vehicle. A nineteen-year-old man from Nassau County was struck while leaning against the parked vehicle.

Rescue crews transported the unidentified victim to a nearby hospital. His injuries have been described as life-threatening.

The second accident occurred just after midnight at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and University Boulevard West. That is when a car, making a left turn onto University, was struck by a motorcycle. The motorcyclist continued on for another 800 to 900 feet before finally losing control of the bike and coming to rest in a parking lot.

The unidentified motorcyclist was transported to Shands Jacksonville Hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries. Police have indicated that speed may have been a contributing factor.

A third crash occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 2:45 AM on Interstate 295 near the Firestone Road overpass. That is when a driver lost control of his speeding vehicle after making an attempt to avoid traffic.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old passenger was taken to Shands Jacksonville Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
