Man Slams into Port Orange Restaurant and Orders Breakfast

Posted on Jan 24, 2010

An elderly man drives his car into a Port Orange Restaurant, injuring a customer, and then sits down to order breakfast. The incident took place at approximately 11:15 AM on Monday morning, January 4, 2010, at the popular Biscuit’s ‘N’ Gravy restaurant.

According to Port Orange Fire spokesperson Tonya Gilardi, Charles Pierce, 91, lost control of his vehicle while attempting to park and slammed through the glass window of the restaurant. A firefighter said that Pierce then proceeded to sit down near his car immediately following the accident and ordered breakfast. Gilardi indicated that Pierce wanted to keep an eye on his car.

Pierce was not injured in the accident.

Rescue crews transported another customer who was injured in the accident to Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange. The unidentified victim was treated for minor injuries sustained in the accident.

There were no other injuries reported in the freak accident.

According to Port Orange Assistant Police Chief Wayne Miller, Pierce was in the process of parking his vehicle when he pressed the accelerator “one too many times” causing him to drive through the café.

The Port Orange accident is still under investigation by local authorities. According to Miller, Pierce was cited for careless driving.
