

A New Smyrna Beach motorcycle accident claims the life of an elderly woman after the three-wheeler loses control, ejecting her from the bike. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 PM on Friday afternoon, April 23, 2010, on U.S. 1.
According to New Smyrna Beach police Sgt. Shane Riggle, the driver of a three-wheeled motorcycle veered to avoid a construction cone while traveling southbound on U.S. 1, near Arts Center Avenue. The passenger, 74-year-old Glenda Gene Dubon, was thrown from the bike.
Rescue crews transported Dubon to Bert Fish Medical Center. She was later taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident. Police report that she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The identity of the male driver was not immediately made known. It was unclear as to whether he sustained injuries in the accident.
The incident took place in a construction zone along U.S. 1. The construction zone is part of a road surface repaving project by the state of Florida.
The fatal New Smyrna Beach motorcycle accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
