According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, a 16-year old girl was killed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday just before midnight. The girl, Shaklyia M. Chess of Palm Coast, was driving a 1995 Infinity on U.S.1 south of Bunnell when she went toward the median, then corrected her car to the right. The car slid across the southbound lanes to the right shoulder then spun counterclockwise and slammed into trees.
The Florida Highway patrol said that further information would be provided as it becomes available.
The attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
Nationwide in 2009, 53 percent of passenger vehicle occupant deaths occurred in single-vehicle crashes. In Florida the proportion is about the same, 52 percent, which represents 788 fatalities. This is a distressingly high number considering that most of these accidents are entirely avoidable.
