Cheryl A. Browne, aged 53, was seriously hurt in the April 19th accident, but rescuers thought her injuries were not life threatening. She passed away last week of causes directly related to the accident, according to the Brevard County Medical Examiner.
As reported by Florida Today, 27-year-old Brigham Reed Clark had been taking prescription drugs and was text-messaging when his Ford F-150 truck slammed into the back of a Chrysler PT Cruiser which had stopped at a red light on U.S. 192. The Chrysler's back portion was entirely compacted into the front seats, and the car was pushed 20 feet forward, slamming into four other vehicles.
While seven people were hurt in the pileup, Clark was shocked but not injured. Sgt. Kim Montes, a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokeswoman said the FHP had been told there were only minor injuries, which meant the FHP went forward with a routine investigation. Browne was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Clark declared he was texting while driving and had taken prescription medication. By law, troopers could not forcibly draw blood from Clark because the crash did not involve a serious injury. Browne later returned to her Palm Bay home where she died early Friday last week, from causes that were not specified but are said to be directly related to the accident.
Now the FHP will have to conduct a complete homicide investigation.
The attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert send their heartfelt sympathy to the two daughters, husband, relatives and friends of Mrs. Browne.
