A man was immediately rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center following an Orlando car accident that took place along John Young Parkway at Silver Star Road. All lanes along the parkway had been shutdown while emergency crews responded to the scene, as well as cleaned up the accident.

The two-vehicle accident involved a small silver car and a Freightliner box truck. The accident took place about 7:15 AM on Thursday morning, September 10, 2009. All lanes of John Young Parkway at Silver Star Road were reopened later that morning.

Robert Lewis Martinez, 59, was identified as the driver of the silver Chevy sedan. Special equipment was used by the Orlando Fire Rescue to cut away and remove the silver sedan out from underneath the box car. The top of the car was also removed in order for rescue crews to retrieve Martinez from the car, according to Orlando police spokeswoman Sgt. Barbara Jones. Martinez’s injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The driver of the box car, Donald Raymond Cardinal, was not injured in the Florida car accident.

There has been no determination as to the cause of the accident or which driver was at fault.
