Drivers are Distracted on Florida Roads

Do you remember a time before cell phones and texting?  It seems like a long time ago. However, one thing we can agree on, the Florida roadways were probably a bit safer without the technological distractions.

The problem is that many people don’t believe that cell phones distract or impair their driving. Perhaps, you are one of them. Would is shock you to know that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute have found that 80 percent of car accidents and 65 percent of near-crashes studied occurred within three seconds of a distraction?

It doesn’t take much convincing to understand how the mere seconds it takes to dial or text might be considered one of these potential distractions.

Are you convinced yet? The study also found that reaching inside the vehicle for an object increases the risk of being involved in a crash. How many of us have taken the time to reach for our phones to either call someone or to answer it?

There are obviously other distractions that can lead to a potential auto accident. For more information, read the article titled What’s Distracting Drivers in Florida?

If you or someone you know has been involved in a car accident, you should contact an experienced Ormond Beach accident attorney at the Law Firm of Johnson & Gilbert at (386) 673-4412 or (800) 556-8890.
