Florida bicyclists are bound by the same traffic laws as other vehicles

Bicyclists are bound by the same traffic laws as motor vehicles.  All road signs and traffic signals must be obeyed or tragic consequences could result. Just recently a New Symrna beach man was killed when he ran a red light while riding his bicycle.  Volusia county roads are always busy.  Bicyclists need to pay extra attention to their surroundings in order to avoid potentially deadly accidents.  Never assume the other driver will see you and take action to avoid an accident.  This applies when operating any vehicle, but is especially important when riding a bicycle or motorcycle. For more information regarding bicycle safety and your rights in Florida, see my library article on the subject.
