Central Florida accidents bring traffic to a halt.

Posted on Feb 21, 2011

Last Monday morning was bad for commuters in Central Florida, as an unusual series of truck and car crashes brought traffic to a stop at several key locations, Wesh.com reports.

A pickup truck pulling a trailer overturned on the southbound lanes of I-95 near New Smyrna, Volusia County, blocking all lanes for more than 45 minutes.

Other accidents at around the same time included one near State Road 434 that jammed the westbound lanes on I-4 from Lake Mary (Seminole County) to Maitland (Orange County) and one near Michigan Street and Kaley Avenue in Orlando, blocking two lanes of I-4.

A fourth crash, near mile marker 108 on I-4 forced the highway patrol to close two lanes.

Hundreds of thousands of Floridians rely on their cars to get to work. For most people, there is no escaping the rush hour traffic day after day, which is precisely when most accidents occur. The dangers of peak hour traffic are many:

  • Very dense flow of vehicles, riding very closely to each other
  • Sudden slowdowns and stops
  • Vehicles changing lanes
  • Distracted drivers, talking on the phone or texting
  • Drivers stressed by delays and slow moving flow
  • Confusing work zones with narrow lanes

Is there a way you can avoid rush hour traffic? Can you do more from home? Can you change your itinerary? Think about it. If you can’t avoid the peak hour traffic, make sure you leave on time.

If you or a loved one has been involved and hurt in a car, truck or motorcycle crash caused by someone else, call immediately the Ormond Beach auto accident attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert for a FREE discussion of your case.
