Daytona Beach Motorcycle Accident Injures Two

A Florida accident involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a motorcycle injure two people. The Daytona Beach motorcycle accident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on Monday afternoon, October 19, 2009.

The two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach when Doris Shelar, 84, who was driving the SUV, struck the motorcycle.

Caitlin Rousseau and her husband, George Rousseau, 51, were traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue with three other motorcyclists and were approaching the intersection when Shelar, who was northbound along Atlantic Avenue, attempted to make a left turn in front of the motorcycles, striking the Rousseau’s motorcycle. 

According to Daytona Beach police Lt. Tom Pera, both Caitlin and George Rousseau were ejected from the motorcycle. Caitlin Rousseau suffered serious injuries to her legs and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center where she underwent surgery.

Pera said that George Rousseau suffered a head injury. However, he appeared to be alright. No other information was provided to the extent of his injuries.

According to Pera, both Caitlin and George Rousseau were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Pera reported that Shelar was cited for violation of right of way.

The Daytona accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
