An Edgewater auto accident involving a car and a young girl on a kick scooter leaves the girl fighting for her life. The incident took place at approximately 4:30 PM on Sunday afternoon, January 24, 2010, outside of the Daytona Beach area.
According to traffic investigator Brian Gintz, the 10-year-old girl was riding her Razor kick scooter down a driveway incline in the 3200 block of Silver Palm Drive in the Florida Shores subdivision when the accident took place. She apparently rode her scooter into the path of an oncoming car that was traveling southbound.
Rescue crews considered her a “trauma alert” when they arrived on the scene. She was transported by a Volusia County sheriff’s helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center where she was treated for injuries sustained in the accident. According to Edgewater Fire Department spokesperson Jill Danigel, the victim has been listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The identity and the condition of the driver that hit the young girl was not made known by officials.
The Edgewater accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, police do not believe that speed nor alcohol were factors in the unfortunate accident.
