Interstate 95 Closed After Truck Strike Utility Pole

Posted on Jul 12, 2010

A truck accident closed the westbound lanes of Belvedere Road near the Intestate 95 exchange by West Palm Beach.
The freeway was closed for several hours after a truck hit a pole, and vehicles approaching I-95 from the west  had to be diverted. The roadway was not reopened until 9:30 that evening.

The roadway had been closed since noon that day after a truck carrying two 76-foot-long concrete poles collided with a utility pole while exiting Interstate 95 going north.

Officials noted that this type of accident happens about two to three times per year.

The truck driver reported that he was making a left turn onto Belvedere Road when he heard a car horn honking from the inside lane. The sound startled him and he took his eyes off the road while making the turn, which caused him to collide with the pole.

The truck driver reported that he is relatively new to the job, and that he is now concerned about his job after this crash.
Officials reported that a temporary wooden pole had to be erected to get street lights working again.
