Man Given the Gift of Life after Truck Accident Near Ocala, Florida

Posted on Sep 16, 2010

Thanks to a kidney donated by his daughter, Andrea Miller, who died in a car accident, Dale Jensen has been given the gift of life. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Jensen and his family.

Mr. Jensen was on an organ transplant list for over two years before getting the kidney from his daughter. He just received it at the end of August.

As Mr. Jensen stated, it was a miracle. He feels he is now a living miracle.

The whole incident started innocently enough with a phone call that his daughter had not picked up her son from school. Mr. Jensen stated that this was very unusual because his daughter just did not make those sorts of mistakes.

When Mr. Jensen went to pick up the child, he was told that there had been an accident. It occurred on County Road 328 near Ms. Miller's house.

Mr. Jensen headed down 328 to find out more. He found the road blocked and a semi-truck laying in a ditch with its front smashed. The road was blocked off.

Mr. Jensen immediately felt uneasy.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that Ms. Miller was driving west while the semi-truck was headed in the opposite direction.

As Ms. Miller drove through standing water, she lost control of her car and over-corrected.

Unfortunately, the semi-truck could not avoid Ms. Miller's car and collided with it .

Doctors first thought that Ms. Miller would recover though she had broken both arms and legs.

“They really gave us hope,” Jensen said.

Unfortunately, the situation turned bad almost immediately, and the family was advised to call other members.

Mr. Jensen reported that he could tell Ms. Miller was just hanging on. His son broke the sad news to Mr. Jensen after one of his daily dialysis sessions. The decision was made that Ms. Miller would want to donate a kidney to her father.

Mr. Jensen cannot express how he felt.

Ms. Miller died at 11 PM one night and the next morning, Mr. Jensen received one of her kidneys.
