Orlando Auto Accident Leaves Woman Trapped in Retention Pond

An Orlando auto accident leaves a woman trapped in her vehicle, killing her, after she crashes into a retention pond. The crash occurred just before 9:00 AM on Monday morning, February 15, 2010. The accident took place just off of State Road 417.

The victim became trapped in her Toyota Scion after she reportedly lost control of her car, drove over a grassy median and into a retention pond.  The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the woman was trapped in her car for almost 30 minutes.  The woman has been identified as 26-year-old Sparkle Corinee Pomeroy, of Orlando.

After rescue workers freed Pomeroy from her car, they transported her to Orlando Regional Medical Center. She was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

There were three witnesses who saw the Scion plunge into the retention pond. They jumped in and smashed the rear window in order to free Pomeroy; however, they were not able to unbuckle her from her seat.

The cause of the accident has not been determined at this time. Investigators did refer to Toyota’s recall list, but her car was not on the list of recalled vehicles.

Officials are still investigating the accident and anyone who has information concerning the accident has been asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at (407) 737-2213.

This is a tragic accident and we extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Pomeroy’s family.
