Orlando Crash Kills Adult, Child, and Injures 6

Posted on Sep 05, 2011

Around 8:40 Friday morning, sitting at the intersection of south Rio Grande Avenue and Grand Street near Clear Lake, Cloverly Livingston waited for a white car full of kids to make a left turn.

The white car spun around and was hit by a red SUV slamming into its passenger door. The impact killed Gabriel Caillot, aged 43, and Gaeton Valceus, aged 11, instantly.

Witnesses rushed to try to help, but three girls in the white car, Julissa Valceus, 7, Emmanuelle Agelie Paul, 12 and Abigialle Caillot, 10, were trapped in the backseat. Emergency responders had to cut through the roof to get them out, according to a CFNews13.com report.

The driver of the red SUV, 28-year-old Yahaira Ramirez, and passengers Desiree Leija, aged 1, and Diomaris Vasquez, aged 8, were taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Witnesses said it was the worst crash they had ever seen, but it was not immediately clear what was the cause of it.

Horrific Orlando crashes like this one are a reminder of how important it is to drive defensively, always on the look-out for possible mistakes and unforeseen events. This is especially true when children are in the car who are, not just physically but also emotionally, very vulnerable in a car accident.
