How to Prevent a Work-Related Back Injury

As you probably already know, back injuries are one of the most common work-related injuries you can suffer while at work. Back injuries can have life altering ramifications and can make it hard to just get through the day.  There are things you can do to help prevent a work-related back injury.

Stretching and strengthening exercises can help improve muscles, reducing the chances of a back injury.  Paying attention to your posture is also key. Poor posture can increase the stress level on your back leading to an injury.  When picking up objects, whether they are light or heavy, you should always lift the right way. Always make sure that your legs are doing most of the work while lifting, not your back.

Three other steps you can take to protect your back from injury include evaluating your work area, changing your position often and focusing on building coordination. For more information on these tips, refer to the article titled, Six Tips to Prevent Back Injuries at Work.

Did you know that if you suffer a back injury while on-the-job, you may be entitled to worker’s compensation? You should seek legal advice to find out if you are eligible for benefits under the Florida Workers Compensation Law.

If you or someone you know has suffered a back injury while at work, you should contact an experienced Daytona Beach, Florida workers compensation attorney at the Law Firm of Johnson & Gilbert at (800) 556-8890.
