There have been 2 fatalities during Daytona's Bike Week 2010, neither rider was wearing a helmet

There have been two fatalities during Daytona Beach's Bike Week so far.  Both fatalities involved motorcycle riders without helmets.  Statistics show that failure to wear a helmet significantly increases the chance of serious injury when involved in a motorcycle accident.  Even though Florida does not require all operators of motorcycles to wear helmets, wearing them improves your chances of surviving an accident.  Bike Week is a festive event. There are thousands of motorcycles on the roads.  Unfortunately, with the increase in traffic, accidents will occur.  Take extra safety precautions when traveling around Volusia and surrounding counties.  Obey traffic signals and look out for other riders/drivers.  Visit Johnson & Gilbert's website for more information on how to decrease the chances of serious injury while enjoying Bike Week.
