Hugo Campos-Leon, aged 18, was driving a 1996 Ford Expedition on I-95 heading for Eustis after a family reunion in North Carolina. In the car were four other adults and four children of the Salgado and Leon families. When the car blew a tire the driver lost control and hit several trees before flipping, according to a report by MyFoxOrlando.
All five adults were killed in the crash: Fidel Salgado, 36, Ana Lilia Figueroa-Garcia, 34, Maria Mercedez Corona-Leon, 28 and Maria Celia Leon De Corona, 48. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, most of the victims were ejected from the car and only two were wearing a seatbelt.
The children, Jairo Salgado, 6, Liset Villanueva-Leon, 6, Aldo Villanueva-Leon, 6 and Dayanna Salgado, 6 were injured but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert are shocked by this tragedy and want to express their warmest sympathy to the Salgado and Leon families and their friends and relatives.
We can only recommend and insist on checking the car before heading for a long trip, including the tires’ wear and pressure. It is also sad that another tragedy was necessary to show once again how important it is to wear a seatbelt in the front and the back of the car, adults and children alike.
