Golfer Azinger recovering from accident near Bradenton, Florida

Golfer Paul Azinger was involved in a motorcycle accident near his Bradenton home. He is currently recovering.

As Azinger was traveling north on 75th West street on his BMW motorcycle, a motorist made a left turn onto the street. Azinger laid the bike down to avoid a collision with the car, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the car was issued a citation for violation of right of way. Azinger fortunately was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was taken to Blake Medical Center as a result of his injuries. Azinger is 50 years old. He is now recovering at home.

His agent reported that Azinger is suffering from some bruises and abrasions and will not be able to play golf for about 10 weeks. This probably cut his rookie season on the Champions Tour short.

Azinger had to cancel his appearance at The Villages near Orlando for promotion of his book, Cracking the Code. The book details Azinger’s role as captain of the US team in the 2008 Ryder Cup in Europe. His strategy helped the team to their victory.

Azinger is expected to participate in this year’s Ryder Cup as a commentator, though his injuries will keep him out of golf for at least the next 2 ½ months.

Azinger did not comment but his manager reiterated how sore he was thus keeping him out of golf.

Azinger grew up in Sarasota and once set the course record at the Bobby Jones Golf Complex. He began his professional career afterwards, and won 12 PGA tour victories. His lone major title was the 1993 PGA Championship.
