

A University High School teacher, Geeta Laloo, aged 48, of Palm Coast, was traveling westbound on Rhode Island Avenue when she hit a 14-year-old boy, Zachary Buckert, who was crossing Rhode Island Avenue with another student at Carpenter Avenue.
The Florida car accident happened at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday. According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes, it was a low-speed impact that nevertheless seriously injured Buckert. The boy was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center.
The FHP issued a citation to Laloo for violation of a pedestrian's right of way. Laloo has been employed by Volusia County schools for 6 years. Currently teaching computer and business classes, she has lost two loved ones in traffic crashes and regularly teaches road safety.
Laloo lost her spouse and a niece in a car accident, and in 1999 her son was hurt when a truck slammed into the back of the family car.
Laloo is still trying to understand what happened. She says she was driving slowly, foot on the brake, and was looking carefully in all directions.
Nancy Wait, the Volusia County Schools spokeswoman, said they are trying to support all those involved in the accident. The attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert wish young Zachary Buckert a speedy recovery.
