Orange County Deputy Says Crash Was Caused By Failing Brakes.

Posted on Apr 25, 2011

Shane Dickens was responding to a call last Thursday, traveling south on Orange Blossom Trail, when he approached Landstreet Road. Trying to move into center lane, his brakes failed and he ended up into the northbound lanes instead, where he struck an oncoming Ford van.

The driver of the van, Zaida Fontanez and her passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, as well as Dickens, also suffering from minor injuries, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Deputy Dickens later declared that his cruiser's brakes had failed, causing him to lose control of the car. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating.

Car crashes caused by defective auto parts are rare, but happen nevertheless. At times, auto accidents are caused or aggravated by malfunctioning or poorly designed cars without anyone noticing it, the cause being attributed to a driver error. If that is the case, an expert investigation may uncover the truth and you might file a product liability claim against the car or part manufacturer or dealer.

If you or a loved one has been hurt in a car crash caused by someone else, call the Ormond Beach accident attorneys of Johnson & Gilbert immediately for a FREE discussion of your case.
