A very unusual accident along Interstate 595 put a pickup truck atop a highway retaining wall and the hood of a Ford Mustang near Davie, Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol reported only minor injuries from the truck crash.
As usual, motorists along I-595 slowed down to get a better view of the truck resting on the wall close to plunging into a clump of trees and mangroves below.
The incident took place in the late afternoon on I-595 going westbound near State Road 7.
The 1996 Chevy pickup truck was being driven by a youth in his late teens. His truck was struck from behind by a 2005 Honda Civic. The truck was forced across the westbound lanes of the Interstate. It overturned and landed on top of the retaining wall and the blue 1995 Ford Mustang.
The driver of the truck, the Mustang and the Honda all suffered minor injuries but the vehicles were all heavily damaged.
The driver of the Honda is facing charges for reckless driving.
Of course, traffic was held up as workers cleared the traffic scene and took the truck off the retaining wall and the Ford Mustang.
Pickup truck accident rates are about twice the average for all vehicles, and 60% of all fatalities of pickup truck passengers are found not wearing their seat belts. Drivers and passengers of pickup trucks should take every precaution when traveling.
