Florida is used to unconventional behavior, but this is unlike anything we have seen in a long time. Thursday morning at around 3:00 a.m. a black BMW driving at anywhere between 90 and 110 miles per hour on Old Winter Garden Road hit the curb, snapped a tree in half, hopped a fence, hit a sign, and then struck a couple of limousines and a trailer. The limos and the trailer immediately caught fire, but that didn’t stop the car from flipping on its roof and crashing into the Orlando West self-storage facility. According to a report by WFTV.com, witnesses never heard the brakes screech and were all convinced that the car’s driver would never outlive such a violent collision.
Incredibly, it later appeared that the 20-year old driver, Natasha Persaud, actually survived the crash and was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating what happened and why.
In the bizarre circumstances of this accident, the damage is mostly material and quite miraculously no one got seriously hurt. But this is a spectacular exception to the rule. The rule is that reckless driving kills and injures people on Florida’s highways every day.
