A Jacksonville motorcycle accident claims the life of a Navy man after he loses control and crashes his bike on a poorly lit street.  The incident took place at approximately 11:30 PM on Wednesday evening, May 5, 2010, along Ashley Melisse Boulevard.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Ashley Melisse Boulevard near Kernan Boulevard lost control of his bike and slammed into a tree after hitting a curb near his home on Soaring Flight Way. According to reports, the street that the accident occurred on was poorly lit which may have contributed to the fatal crash.

The motorcyclist, a Navy man, has been identified as 27-year-old Robert N. Herve. He was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the motorcycle crash. Detective Darrell Edmonds reported that Herve was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The late night Jacksonville motorcycle accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It is unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the fatal wreck.

Motorcycle accidents can lead to serious injuries, even if helmets are worn. This is a terrible accident and our thoughts and condolences go out to Mr. Herve’s family and friends during this difficult time.
