pedestrian accident in Deltona left a 4-year-old injured after the child was struck by a car while sitting on a bus bench. The incident took place on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, near the intersection of Normandy Boulevard and Hancock Drive.

 

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, two vehicles were allegedly engaged in a road-rage confrontation when one of the vehicles lost control and slammed into a bus bench. Unfortunately, a 4-year-old boy was on the bench and injured as a result of the crash.

 

Rescue crews flew the child to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he was treated for a broken leg and several abrasions. Fortunately, he was released from the hospital several days later.

 

After the boy was hit, the driver reportedly fled the accident scene. However, the suspect was eventually arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, and a probation violation. The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Jeremy Vega.

 

It is unclear whether the driver of the second car has been identified. No other injuries were reported.

 

The freak Deltona pedestrian accident remains under investigation by local authorities as they determine the exact cause of the hit-and-run accident.
