Four people, including three children, lost their lives in a Volusia County car accident in which the van they were traveling in went off the road and slammed into an overpass wall. The tragic crash took place on Friday, April 19, 2013, on I-95.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a woman driving a van was traveling on I-95 towards LPGA when she left the road and hit a wall under the overpass. The force of the impact caused the car to flip.

The driver has been identified as Michelly Zulfiqar, 38, of South Daytona. Unfortunately, Ms. Zulfiqar lost her life due to injuries sustained in the accident. Her three children, ages three, four, and ten also lost their lives.

The FHP believes Ms. Zulfiqar was traveling between 65 and 75 miles an hour when the collision occurred. It is believed that neither she nor her three children were wearing seat belts.

“The kids are happy go lucky,” said neighbor James Baldwin, who lived across the street from the family. “You always hear them having fun over there,” he said.

The fatal, single-vehicle Volusia County car accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. There was no early indication as to what caused Ms. Zulfiqar to lose control of her van.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims as they deal with their loss.
