Florida drivers, motorcycle riders, pedestrians and even bicyclists need to take note...Florida's roads are dangerous!  Florida still ranks as one of the most dangerous states to travel in.  According to Florida Traffic Crash Statistics, in 2007 there were 256,206 traffic crashes with 3221 fatalities.  In 2008, these numbers improved slightly with 243,342 traffic accidents and 2983 fatalities.  2008 showed a reduction in traffic crashes involving injuries, alcohol, drugs and teen drivers.  However, there was an increase in motorcycle crashes and injuries involving motorcyclists.  In 2008 there were 9618 motorcycle crashes compared to 9205 the year before.

An unusual statistic was the increase in pedestrian and bicyclists accidents and injuries in 2008.  There were 8471 pedestrian related accidents in 2008 and 4380 bicyclists accidents.  Both of these numbers represent an increase from the year before.  One explanation for the increase in pedestrian and bicycle accidents is the economy.  The economy is in bad shape.  Gas prices are on the rise. When taken together, these two facts result in more and more Floridians  resorting to more economical means of getting to and from work or to a grocery store.  An increase in pedestrian traffic and bicycle use is certainly a contributing factor in the increase in accidents and injuries.
