One person was killed and another was seriously injured when a minivan and a sedan collided on Thursday morning, July 12, 2013. According to the Florida Times-Union, the Jacksonville car accident took place near the intersection of Devoe Street and Garfield Avenue.

The crash occurred at around 8:40 a.m., when an unidentified male driver traveling west on Devoe Street lost control of his vehicle and veered out of his lane. His minivan crossed the double-yellow centerline and drove into the path of an oncoming sedan driven by 43-year-old Wendy S. Wilburn of Mayall Drive. The vehicles struck head-on.

Wilburn was rushed by ambulance to University of Florida Health Jacksonville Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The man in the other vehicle was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The car accident is under investigation by local police. It is unclear why the male driver left his lane and drifted into oncoming traffic.

Neither driver involved the FL car accident was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Traffic safety advocates believe that buckling up before driving can save hundreds of lives each year in Florida.

Wilburn was just a few blocks from her home at the time of the fatal traffic accident. Many car accidents take place within a few miles of your residence.

The Jacksonville car accident attorneys at Johnson & Gilbert send their condolences to the friends and family of Wendy Wilburn and wish the other car accident victim a swift and complete recovery.
